Over 1200 islands and islets settled in the Adriatic Sea.
Adventures await. Cliff jumping, sailing, snorkelling, hiking, kayaking, diving.
7 UNESCO world heritage sites..Plitvice Lakes, Dubrovnik, Stari Grad Plain, Cathedral of St James in Šibenik, Split and the Palace of Diocletian, City of Trogir, Euphrasian Basilica of Porec.
Cheap(ish)! Currently, the exchange rate is $1 to 6.7 Kuna. With the dollar so strong in Eastern European countries, now is the time!
Food and wine. Settled between Italy and the Mediterranean, there is no shortage of delicious, authentic flavors. Feta that melts in your mouth. Pizza covered with fresh, natural ingredients. Seafood straight from the Adriatic. And then there’s the Croatian specialities… Local olive oil, truffles, and white wine. White wine from the village of Trstenik is even imported to the White House. The Istria region is particularly well known as a foodie area. We even tried this amazing homemade pasta, called surlice, made on the island of Krk.
The Water. The beautiful, blue, salty water of the Adriatic.
Game of thrones. Dubrovnik, Split, Vrsno, Lokrum Island, Sibenik, Klis Fortress…experience King’s Landing, Quarth, Meereen, House of the Undying, and Braavos for yourself.
The People. Laid back, kind, generous people. We were given delicious, homemade snacks, free rides, and amazing recommendations.
History. Walk through Diocletian’s Palace as it has remained for thousands of years. Stroll through the walled cities of ancient Croatia. Imagine life as royalty when you see Trakošcan Castle, dating back to 1334. So much history to explore.
Sunsets. Croatia is one of the sunniest places on earth (over 2,600 hours of sunshine a year), but it’s the moment when the sun starts to disappear and the sky lights up with shades of gorgeous pinks and oranges that you don’t want to miss.
**bonus** Croatia knows how to do the beachside bar scene…

It would be so cool to see the spots where Game of Thrones was filmed! It’s one of my favorite shows!
me too! I love it!
I am convinced!! Want to visit!!
I love Croatia Belle – and you are ‘bang on’ with your write up – Your photos just keep getting better and better – what lens did you use to give the ‘circular’ effect x
Thank you so much! I have been using a Go Pro Hero 4 recently and it has the wide angle lens…it’s so awesome, it captures so much!
Kate used the ‘go pro’ on her recent jaunt to South America. I need to get some new lenses – I wish that I had had a wide angle when I was in Tuscany last week. I will wangle some photos into the blog – but they are nothing like yours – I love looking at them x
I’m headed to Tuscany in October so I’ll be waiting for your photos!
Oh they are rubbish – but Tuscany is FAB – I LOVED SIENNA, I have some interesting ones from there, but will have to try and find a way to work them into the blog, as mine is more cooking and French culture rather than general travel, but lots of people on here have asked to see them, so I may just do a one off photo portfolio. Where are you staying, I am just in the process of writing two posts with little tips……….
