When planning a ski getaway the highlights are often prioritized to the slopes–the altitude, the weather conditions, the challenge of the tracks. Or maybe you’re like me, and there’s a slight focus on the accommodation–you know, the panoramic views, the spa facilities, the cozy lounge to sip hot coco. The really important stuff.
For our ski weekend getaway to Slovakia, we got the best bits of both! You can read all about Štrbské Pleso and all there is to do right here! Now for everything that happens off the slopes…We arrived at the fairytale hotel that is the Kempinski High Tatras and instantly my camera was snapping! The historic building is composed of three separate pieces, all from different eras. The delicate trim and classic coloring of the hotel resembles something of a giant gingerbread house…so cute, you’ll want to take a bite out of it!
The Kempinski offers the best of the best in five star accommodations–excellent dining, gorgeous spa facilities, classically decorated and luxurious rooms, and of course, the unparalleled views of Štrbské Pleso and the surrounding mountains. The hotel offers a quick transfer to the slopes or you can wander across the frozen lake. Maybe stopping for photos… After a day on the slopes, we headed to the spa for a steam and dip in their breathtaking pool. With chandeliers above, crisp white loungers surrounding and of course, the mountains overtaking the window view, it was the perfect place for some R&R. We dined in the Grand Restaurant for a scrumptious buffet breakfast and then again for a delicious dinner of classic, regional dishes. The elegant dining room is bright and crisp during the daylight and was a romantic candlelit experience at night. The perfect little afternoon pick me up was tea in the lounge by the fire! I love sipping something warm by a fire just looking out over the snowy slopes!
