Antinori, the family name that essentially is translated to wine. As in they basically run the show in Italy. Since 1385, yep that’s no typo, the Antinori family has been passing this tasty trade from generation to generation. There are seven estates across the Toscana and Umbria regions. We visited the Marchesi Antinori Chianti Classico, one of the largest vineyards in Italy.

Now the appearance of this vineyard is not quite what you’d expect…it looks more like an enemy lair in a James Bond film than an ancient Tuscan winery. Hidden beneath the olive groves, vineyards and oak trees, is the expansive complex boosting a winery, an auditorium for tours, museum, book shop, and of course, the wine store. The only piece above ground is the delicious restaurant…and delicious almost doesn’t even cut it. It was actually one of my favorite meals in Italy! And bonus, tasty wine!

The basic tour involves a bit of history on the family, tours of the facility, tasting of 3 wines and runs only €25. It is offered in Italian and English and lasts about 1.5 hours.
