Finally some warm(ish) temperatures are starting to roll in and while everyone is escaping to the south, the place you need to visit this summer is the Isle of Skye! This time of year is perfect for all of the outdoor adventures in northern Scotland and the long daylight hours offer endless time to explore.
Here’s our itinerary for making the most of your getaway to the Isle of Skye :
Fly into Inverness and rent a car! This is essential for seeing everything and managing your own time. The next stop will be Portree on Skye, after an almost 3 hour drive through the gorgeous Scottish countryside. Portree is one of the biggest towns in Skye, which is not saying much as it’s still very small and quaint. The rainbow lane was my favorite with the bright colored buildings lining the port. Grab a bite to eat and head north for some hiking! Next stop will be Old Man of Storr, about a fifteen minute drive from Portree. You’ll see parking along the road so grab a spot and get ready for the uphill climb! Save at least 2 hours for this excursion.
A few more miles up the road is the Quiraing. An almost 7 km walk loops you around some of the most stunning landscapes!
After this batch of hiking, we were pretty exhausted and settled in to our Wigwam for the night. These adorable little cabins are the perfect way to really experience Skye! Read my review of our stay here on WeAreTravelGirls!
After a restful night, we awoke ready to explore! Making your way around the island, up next is Dunvegan Castle and then off the path a little to Claigan Coral Beach.
On the way to Neist Point Lighthouse, you need to stop in to the Red Roof Cafe and Gallery for some delicious local dishes and incredible coffee.
Only an hour away from this epic landscape is another of completely different proportions! The Fairy Pools of Glen Brittle are simply stunning and borderline other-worldly.
To finish off our trip, we cruised around Loch Ness looking for Nessie! No such luck.

I’ve never been to Iceland–hoping to go this fall! If it’s anything like this, I know I’ll love it! X
We will definitely be visiting here at some point. It’s such an easy trip from London and I’ve hardly seen any of Scotland. It looks so stunning here 🙂
